Hi I’m a procrastinator and I’m not fully cured but I can tell you what has helped me.

I judge most procrastinators dally when they have a large daunting project (organizing your house) or a vauge poorly defined goal (studying for a test), or both (prose a thesis).

Basically I would be really overwhelmed by these projects and I’d do my best to avoid and ignore them in anticipation of the last minute.

To combat this you must break the task down into small objective pieces. You could never eat a steak in one bite you must do it one piece at a time.

So for organizing your houses list each room and prioritize which one should be organized first. Then forget about the rest of the house and focus on one room. Still it might be too overwhelming for some (me) you must break it down more. I’m going to focus on just the desk today, all of the papers I find I’ll place in a pile over here to systematize tomorrow. Also make sure once you achive a mini goal for the day you stop and don’t reckon about it anymore and pick a time to start working on the next mini goal tomorrow. This is an valuable step because part of the wits you have distress working on a project is because you’re so stressed out about how behind you are on it. So tomorrow all I do is systematize those papers when I close them then I’m done for the day.

Studying for a test on say chapters 8-12, you can do the same prioritize the chapters and work problems from each. Today I will do these 10 problems and study the ones I don’t know.

So again break down into small bite sized steps.
Set a goal for the day and don’t be afriad to stop when you achive it.

Oh and trick yourself into starting quicker by way overestimating the amount of time it would take.

    Hope that helps.

    -Eddie

find a group that is working on this emotional problem and join it, then stick with the meetings and do your best to get over it.

make a list of what you need to get done. Place what HAS to happen today at the top, place what can wait towards the bottom. Start at the top and just start going down. You might even get a thrill from getting things accomplished… especially with cleaning. It’s simpler to keep a room clean by doing a small each day than cleaning it all at once.

Let’s see, now let me reckon about this awhile. LOL, not making fun of you, I just identify with you. I reckon one procrastinates on things that are not of much valuable, but yet have to be done, like taking out the trash, doing laundry, etc. When something valuable rolls around, us procrastinators are ordinarily right on it. We just need something of interest in order not to dally.

you need to uderstand the principle that any business not done is a business that needs to be done, and most often, waiting til the last minute is counterproductive

It’s called will power. Write a schedule and stick to it. Start on something straight away instead of thinking you will have time later to do it. Stop playing video games.

my husband always called me a "procrastinator" he’d say "why do today, what you can place off till tomorrow"lol…i reckon it’s a "reality"business… my advice ,even even if it might not be the best answer….the quicker you get it done..the better…then you don’t have to worry about it tomorrow… excellent luck…. :)

Use reverse psychology on yourself; instead of thinking you have "all the time in the world" to do something, place the pressure on yourself & do it NOW (as even if your life depended on it). You never know, -soon, -it might.

Wait in anticipation of tomorrow to try and fix it.

…..situations like this take a conscious, mindful breaking down….picture it like this…tieing a knot is simple to do…and u get betta and quicker at it the more u do it…untieing the knot is like breaking the habit of procrastination…and the tighter the knot is, the more concentration and patience it takes to untie it…..this choice is like black and white…either u want to change or u don’t–and if u truly want to, that "lacking" will look like something and u will be more mindful and conscious of it…..get back to fundamentals…..and rebuild a foundation for excercising excellent habits all around…
